Multiplayer Game Reviews

Another

I’m not entirely sure why Spogg.com decided to call this game “Another” but to me it’s another one of their well made, wonderfully thought out remakes of a classic game turned multiplayer. If you’ve ever played Snake you may remember some of these details.

The point and purpose of the game is fairly straightforward. You are a collection of long balls called an “adder.” Moving only with the left and right arrow keys (you automatically go forward so all you have to do is steer) your goal is to get as many shiny stars without running into either the walls, obstacles –usually in the form of little red X’s, or your ever growing body. You’ll find that this is more and more difficult the longer your adder gets but with a little effort and pre-thinking you can usually compensate for your abnormal size.

Now, that’s all in the original game but what Spogg has done in order to make it a multiplayer game is to add power ups. Power ups can be either good or bad and you kind of have to find out which each individual one is by trial and error. Once you know which ones you want and which you want to get rid of you can press the down arrow key to take it yourself, press the up arrow key to send it to whoever is currently in the lead. If you want to be vindictive and evil (like me!) you can also use the buttons F1, F2, F3, or F4 to send it to a specific person. Or you could just ignore it completely and press ESC to get rid of it.

I feel like in my previous reviews of Spogg.com I’ve pretty much conveyed how wonderful they are at making old games new and fun for more than one person. I hate to repeat myself but they really do deserve the extra scoops of praise. This game was not only addictive and trying but it managed to make me, an avid promoter of single player games, really enjoy the multiplayer process. Maybe it’s the fact that the games themselves are set up so nicely with difficulty levels and time limits or maybe it’s just the simple fact that the people who seem to be hanging around Spogg.com are typically friendly and respectful. But either way, this is definitely a game (and site) I would recommend.
