not if population growth was turned off, and i used to be able to clear 7 connected provinces quite easy :)

Things work differently in v3, so don't count on everything you've been doing to get you a victory in v2 to work in v3.

What? v3? Thought v2 was pretty good as it was. What's new in it then? Am I going to have to relearn how to play? :o

Quite a bit has changed. All new map system, all new user interface, addition of mobile phones for the available platforms, etc.

Hi,

Is someone able to direct me to a good up to date source of information around the rules (and strategy) for the Multiplayer version please?

Many of the posts covering rules are based on previous versions, so I can't avoid nagging doubts that I might be on the wrong track.
(Are there rules ready to be dowloaded somewhere??)

In particular, any clear info on diplomacy would be appreciated. (How, when, why, breaking & how to plan to do so etc...)

Thanks,
Valax.

Hi Valax,

Start up the game AoC ONLINE using a computer. Login, on the left side of the screen you'll see a button called: "Manual". Click on it. It will tell you the rules and brief explanation.

There are many opinions on Diplomacy. I prefer you read the manual first and then ask specific questions. Otherwise, we could write a novel on the subject.

But to briefly give you the short answers:
How - just click on the diplomacy button and select the option your want
When - whenever you want or when you have the moves to afford it.
Why - So you're not fighting 5 players at once.
Breaking - my opinion = never

But the how, when, why and breaking of diplomacy is a tactical choice which will vary form player to player. It's best to find what works for your style of play and the tactic which best favor that play style. It's also good to know your players. Therefore, I'll tell you that when I ally someone verbally you can count on me never breaking my word. I not only do I expect the same from my allies but I demand it from them, for once the bond of trust has been broken. I will not trust that player again.

Found it! - Thanks (a case of domestic blindness).

The rules on diplomacy are clearer now.

Thanks Fodder.

Valax.

Guys, ... it has been interesting reading,

..... esp. regarding the need of alliances ... elefant :bananaxxx: elefant elefant elefant elefant elefant

This becomes a difficult game for those who tend to be solo performers ..., and wish to participate in a contest with more than, say, 4 players ...

Solo players or any player can do well in this game. It's just a matter or recognizing the situation and applying a simple strategy for it. Not that difficult even for a solo player. However, it will take a noobie 10-20+ games to figure it out, and then another 10-20+ games to master it.

If by solo you mean you against the AI, this game isn't that much of a challenge. But if you mean no diplomacy, there are lots of us who like to play occasional games with the no-diplo option. Of course, any time you get more than 2 players in a game, there will always be plotting and diplomacy of some sort, whether formal or informal.
