I am trying to find a good way to classify maps. Let's assume you are searching maps for AOC (there are over 100 now); how would you like them to be seachable. It's not just maps, but also games (aka scenarios) you are playing. Here is my idea.

Categories for Maps:
- Continents: Europe, Asia...
- World
- Fantasy
This is going to be a dropdown list. It gets little complicated if a map is made out of e.g. Europe & America. How to classify? Maybe "Euramerica"? Or Europe & Africa, e.g. "Euroafrica"???

Categories for Scenarios (or Games that you'd like to join):
- by year: e.g. 1300?
- by Fiction: true/false (false => somewhat true to real history?)
- other?

Europe & America = Europe/America?
Europe & Aisa = Europe/Asia?
etc...
Multiple Continents?

- Size (# of provs)?

Yes, will definitely include size & last update. Besides that, I am pretty sure people want to search maps by other parameters, i.e. location. I want to make 1 single dropdown list, otherwise it gets confusing. What would be all-encompassing values for the location?

Well, I would classify map and scenarios based upon why I'm searching for them. Such as, if I was looking for a map to download, then I think an alphabetical list is fine, or keep it like it is, by date.

To break this into categories I guess I might do something: "Real Maps", "Fantasy Maps" & "Mobile Maps".

If "Real Maps" need to be broken down then perhaps something like this: North & South America, Europe & Arctic, Asia and Pacific Islands, Africa & Antarctic.

I don't see a need to search for scenarios.

If this meant for something like, what games I want to join. Then doing a search for Map name, Turn Mode, Rated, Unrated, Mobile Realm, Non Mobile Realm, Rating above X, Rating below X, # of players, etc. Would be more important to me than a category by geographical location.

For this kind of search I don't think categories such as Fantasy maps, North & South America, etc. are really that useful. Nor do I think I would search by scenarios but I still would like to know which scenario is being used for a given map.

So - for me, I would create different types of categories based upon how I planned to use those categories. I guess, I should ask how did you intend to use the map categories?

Anyhow, I noted for AOC, there is no 144 maps which is quite a lot! The question is how to find the map you like most efficiently.

Thanks for all the feedback guys :kg:

So many maps because i have been making lots lol. Organising them continently seems like a good idea - So Africa, North America, South America, Asia, Europe, Oceania and Antarctica then maybe a world category for maps that have more than one continent in them and also an option for the fantasy style maps.
